Report: Arsenal to offer Emery signing plus cash for £34m-rated target; ‘paltry’ bid already rejected
Arsenal are reportedly set to offer Lazio Lucas Torreira in an attempt to sweeten a second offer to sign Joaquin Correa.
According to Rome-based publication il Messaggero, the Gunners have already had a ‘paltry offer’ rejected for the Argentine international. Correa is currently with the South American nation for this summer’s Copa America.
As per the report, Arsenal will submit a second offer for the Lazio attacker, this time including Torreira, who is reportedly a target for the Serie A side. Il Messaggero state that new manager Maurizio Sarri is a fan of the Uruguayan midfielder.
Although Correa has a release clause of €80m (£68.8m), Lazio would accept an offer of €40m (£34m) for the former Sevilla attacker.
As per il Messaggero, Arsenal could make a bid of between €15m (£12.8m) – €20m (£17m) plus Torreira for the 26-year-old.
Correa is an interesting option for Arsenal
The attacker is an interesting target for Arsenal given his role for Lazio. Correa is largely used as a second striker, a position that is rarely used in the modern game.
However, the Argentine has made it work since joining the Roman club.
The forward last season scoring 11 goals and assisting six more in all competitions for Lazio. And Correa’s use of the position has made him a hard attacker to deal with for rival teams.
The attacker can also play out on the left-wing, which could be an intriguing prospect for Arsenal.
Arsenal should be looking to make money for Torreira
Signed by Unai Emery in the summer of 2018, it is easy to forget that Torreira once had all the hallmarks to become a superstar for Arsenal.
The diminutive midfielder was something supporters hadn’t seen in some time with his impressive tackling and attacking spirit.
Yet like most things at Arsenal, this belief and form didn’t last long. And Torreira now looks all-but-certain to leave the club this summer.
However, the Gunners are missing a trick not looking for a direct sale for the South American midfielder, who could easily fetch a solid price this window based on his age and abilities.
