Report: Arsenal to offer £75k-a-week star in quest to land Thomas Partey

Arsenal are preparing to offer Lucas Torreira to Atletico Madrid in another attempt to finally seal the signing of midfielder Thomas Partey, according to OK Diario.

The Gunners have already tried to offer Los Rojiblancos the services of Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guedouzi in their long-running quest to sign the Ghanaian.

Now it would seem they are set to offer the Uruguayan as bait, with the ex-Sampdoria star way down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have already added Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and have re-signed Dani Ceballos during the summer window so far.

Some midfield steel is next on the horizon for Arteta though and it seems he’d dearly love to sign Partey.

Arsenal are struggling to meet the player’s £45 million release clause and figure they can pay a smaller fee – if Atletico agree to take a Gunners outcast as part of the deal.

Torreira signed for Arsenal for £26 million in 2018 but has struggled to really settle into the Gunners team.

The £75,000-a-week (Spotrac) maestro has featured in 89 games, although it’s clear Arteta is keen to go in a different direction with his midfield.

Partey has been on the radar for some time and it’ll be interesting to see if they can get Atletico to cave.

TBR View – Arsenal must do what they can to land primary target

The man with 26 caps for his country would be a game-changing signing for Arsenal and it’s easy to see why they are persisting.

It does seem more and more likely that the Gunners will have to somehow stump up the cash for Partey instead though.

If Diego Simeone doesn’t cave in and accept the Torreira plus cash offer, the Uruguayan could still be sold and that would suit Arsenal.

The signings so far this summer have undoubtedly improved Arteta’s ranks but Partey would be the best of the bunch.

He is strong, energetic and could see Arsenal finally land the Vieira-type figure they have craved for many years.
