Report: Arsenal to listen to January offers for Mohamed Elneny

Arsenal are willing to sell midfielder Mohamed Elneny in the January transfer window, so long as fellow midfielder, Granit Xhaka, makes a successful return from injury.

Elneny, who earns a reported £52k-a-week at Arsenal, is set to see that contract end in the summer. As yet, nothing new has been agreed either.

And according to a report from The Sun, the lack of movement from both sides could see the Gunners look to cash in on Eleny over the winter. The report claims that should Granit Xhaka have a smooth return from injury, then Mikel Arteta will let Elneny go.

The 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order further following the summer arrival of Sambi Lokonga. And with Ainsley Maitland-Niles also getting minutes, Elneny has drifted away.

The Football Club That Only Sign Soldiers

Elneny is set to depart in January anyway for the African Cup of Nations.

It seems, then, that the Gunners are willing to get some money in the coffers, while freeing up another hefty chunk of wages in the process.

TBR’s View: Arsenal right to move on from Elneny

Let’s be honest, barring a few decent enough performances, Mo Elneny is hardly the biggest fish in the pond at The Emirates. In fact, he’s firmly in the bracket of dispensable players.

If, then, the Gunners can land a bit of cash for Elneny, then it makes more than enough sense to offload him during the winter. Lokonga’s signing is looking more shrewd by the week, and the emergence of Charlie Patino is even more comforting.

For Elneny, it looks like he might as well prepare to be on his way.
