According to a report from The Sun, Arsenal could be about to beat Manchester United to signing of Sunderland teenager Logan Pye.
Pye is a 15-year-old England under-16 international who can play at centre-back or at full-back. The Sun reports that he has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time and the Red Devils considered a bid in the summer.
However, The Sun is now suggesting that the Gunners are in pole position to sign the Black Cats starlet during the January transfer window when Pye will be old enough to make the switch to the Emirates.
It is obviously a blow for Sunderland that they look set to lose one of their brightest prospects. Unfortunately for Jack Ross’s men, it will not be an unfamiliar feeling if Pye leaves the Stadium of Light in the coming months.
History repeating itself for Sunderland?
Arsenal signed young striker Sam Greenwood from Sunderland just over a year ago. And he has gone on to enjoy a fantastic start to life with the Gunners.
The 17-year-old scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 21 appearances in last season’s under-18 Premier League. He has scored one in three at the start of this campaign.
It is obviously going to be tough for Greenwood to break into the first-team with the Gunners, as it will be for Pye if he follows him to North London, but it looks to be an exciting time to join Unai Emery’s men.
