Report: Arsenal to announce signing of Albert Lokonga before jetting off to USA
Arsenal will announce the signing of midfielder Albert Lokonga before jetting off to the USA this week, reports the Daily Mail.
The Gunners are due to fly over to Florida in midweek to complete their pre-season programme. It comes after two games in Scotland failed to bring a win, with a 2-2 draw at Rangers to show for their efforts yesterday.
But following the game, Mikel Arteta confirmed he was confident of new arrivals. And now The Mail claim that a deal is all but done for Lokonga, with an announcement due this week.
Lokonga is hoping to be involved in the Florida trip. The young Belgian will be hoping to make an impression if given the chance.
Fellow new signing Nuno Tavares got off to the perfect start by firing in a goal on his debut yesterday.
At long last
Every day for the last two weeks, Arsenal seem to have been close to signing Lokonga. A deal is expected to be done for around £18m, and it looks like it’s finally over the line.
It’s another boost for Arteta and his squad. They clearly need bodies and new faces in the building. Lokonga should bring energy, power, and a different option in midfield.
The fact he’s just the second confirmed signing for the Gunners gives him an advantage on others. He now has a good month or so to embed properly and show his worth.
If he does well in Florida, then Arteta might well just throw him in come the start of the PL season.
