Mikel Arteta has five games to save his job as manager of the club, according to the Telegraph.

What’s the story?

Sunday’s defeat at home to Chelsea means Arsenal have started their Premier League season off with back-to-back losses.

It is the first time in their history the Gunners have lost the opening two games without scoring.

And it has put the Spaniard under enormous pressure as a result.

The hierarchy at Arsenal have allegedly drawn up a list of potential replacements, including Antonio Conte.

Conte was in talks over a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, but a move broke down.

Conte would be a great replacement

It probably goes without saying: Conte would be a sensational replacement for Arsenal if they were to sack Arteta.

The Italian’s record in recent seasons is incredible.

Five league titles in his last seven seasons at club level is a sign of his outstanding quality.

And with Arsenal showing their financial muscle with the purchase of Ben White, they would be able to match his ambitions.

But the club need to be careful, as Conte has a history of falling out with the hierarchy.

While he has the tools to turn around the club’s fortunes, he also has the tools to plunge them into a deeper crisis.

It will be a balancing act, but appointing Conte would be a masterstroke nonetheless.
