Report: Arsenal in talks over £40m midfielder who's been compared to Andrea Pirlo
Arsenal are reportedly already in talks over Ruben Neves, according to Portuguese outlet Record.
The Gunners have been linked with the Wolves midfielder over the past few weeks.
Gianluca Di Marzio claimed earlier this week that Neves is Arsenal’s first choice to replace Granit Xhaka.
Roma are apparently waiting for the Gunners to sign a midfielder before moving for the Switzerland star.
Although Arsenal are reportedly closing in on Albert Sambi Lokonga, Neves continues to be linked with the Gunners.
Record claims that Bruno Lage isn’t eager to part company with Neves, so Arsenal will have to present a large offer.
The Telegraph reported in June that Wolves want at least £40million for the 24-year-old.
Neves joined Wolves from Porto in 2017 and helped the club to promotion from the Championship into the Premier League.
He has clocked up 176 appearances in old gold, registering 20 goals and 10 assists.
Neves is a superb passer of the ball, and in May 2019, 90Min spoke highly about his style of play.
“He draws comparisons with the likes of Xabi Alonso, Paul Scholes, and Andrea Pirlo – the latter of which Neves has confessed to modelling himself after,” they wrote.
“He is first and foremost a passer, and it is his range of passes that makes him such an integral part to Wolves’ success (in 2018-19).
“Whether it is a 50 yard, expertly judged ball just floating out of reach of a backtracking defender, or an intricate pass guided between three or four bodies to unlock a defence – Neves can play either with nonchalant aplomb.”
