Arsenal may be about to miss out on Tariq Lamptey for the time-being, with the Daily Mail reporting that the youngster is on the verge of signing a new contract with Brighton.
Lamptey is attracting attention from a host of clubs across Europe. He has been outstanding since arriving at the Seagulls last January.
And his form prompted Brighton to look at improving upon the three-year deal they agreed with the 20-year-old when he joined.
The Daily Mail notes that his form has caught the eye of the Gunners, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, amongst others.
But those sides hoping to tempt Lamptey away from the Amex Stadium may now have to bide their time. The Mail has claimed that he is on the verge of penning fresh terms with Brighton.
TBR View: New contract should not deter Arsenal
Brighton will be well aware that Lamptey’s admirers are unlikely to disappear when he signs a new contract.
And Arsenal should be one of those who do not give up on the right-back just yet. He has shown huge promise since breaking into Graham Potter’s side.
Signing a right-back should perhaps not be a priority for Mikel Arteta. But with Hector Bellerin’s form coming in for criticism at times and with Cedric Soares yet to force his way above him in the pecking order, it is an area of the pitch that Arsenal should be open to strengthening.
