Arsenal fans can seemingly forget about any lingering hopes of signing Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig this summer, according to a report from Football.London.
The French defender has made his way onto the radar of several clubs this summer, after his stellar performances for the German side in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
It was reported by Bild earlier this season that Leipzig were now willing to slash their £52 million asking price to £34 million with the colossal defender’s contract expiring in 2021 and due to the ongoing financial aspects of the global health crisis.
Arsenal were one of the teams linked with a move for the player and with the news that David Luiz will likely be leaving the club at the end of this season, the 21-year-old looks the perfect option to partner countryman William Saliba when he finally arrives at the club from Saint-Etienne.
However, Football.London has made it clear that Upamecano is not ‘within their financial reach’ at this moment in time and Arsenal will need to look elsewhere for another centre-back.
The Gunners have been linked with the likes of Axel Disasi and Manuel Ajkanji in recent times, with Mikel Arteta clearly looking to completely revamp the club’s centre-back options.
However, whilst he may have been many people’s first-choice option to fulfill that role, it would seem Upamecano is not likely to be on his way to The Emirates.
