Arsenal are taking a closer look at Mitchel Bergkamp, who has joined the club on trial after being released in the summer.
Bergkamp, who is the 22-year-old son of Arsenal legend Dennis, is being given a week or two to impress for Steve Bould’s under-23s, according to a report from Goal.

He was released from Almere City in the summer after coming through the development system there but is now on the lookout for a fresh start. Bergkamp, then, will be hoping he can live up to his family name and impress down at Colney to earn a deal.
The Gunners are obviously prepared to give the young midfielder a chance given the success his father had. Of course, if he can get to just 50% of the level Dennis showed, then he’d still be some player.

Bergkamp Sr. made over 400 appearances for Arsenal in a glittering spell with the club. He is often considered the greatest forward they have had in Premier League history, alongside Thierry Henry.

Not many players get the chance to impress for a club like Arsenal and it’s obvious family ties have helped him here.
Mitchel will, obviously, need to show the talent and quality needed to earn a deal but the chance is there for him to grasp with both hands if he really wants it.
Pressure does come with his surnname, though, and he’ll be watched closely by Gunners fans if he does indeed get a contract.
