Report: Arsenal summer signing believes he will make PL debut soon; club are set for big payday
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale believes he will make his Premier League debut with the Gunners next weekend against Norwich City.
According to the Sun, the 23-year-old shot-stopper has told friends that Mikel Arteta could turn to him following Bernd Leno’s poor start to the season. The German keeper has conceded nine goals in three Premier League matches.
As per the report, Sheffield United will be due a big payday if Ramsdale makes his Premier League debut. This is due to a clause in the keeper’s contract with Arsenal.
The Gunners sit bottom of the league table and will be desperate for a big win against Norwich to get their Premier League campaign back on track. The Canaries are joint-bottom of the standings with the Gunners.
Indeed, Leno has not been at fault for the number of goals Arsenal have conceded. But a change in personnel between the sticks could have a mental boost on the defence.
Although the former Sheffield United keeper has been relegated twice in his past two seasons in the Premier League, it is not out of the question that Arteta could turn to Ramsdale for next Saturday’s huge Arsenal fixture.
Arsenal have to win if they are to kick their season off and if Arteta wants to keep his job. And taking a risk to change snap a bad run is something the Basque manager has already done during his spell as manager of the Gunners.
Arteta famously started Emile Smith Rowe on Boxing Day against Chelsea as the Arsenal overturned a torrid run of form. And the young manager could make a similar decision next week with Ramsdale against Norwich.
