Report: Arsenal suffer second blow for creative signing as club plan contract talks for target
Arsenal have suffered a blow in their pursuit to sign Martin Odegaard on a permeant transfer.
Defensa Central report that the Los Blancos board will soon regroup to convince the Norwegian international to sign a new deal with the club. Odegaard’s current contract with Madrid expires in 2023.
As per the report, Odegaard will likely be a part of Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team plans for next season. Zinedine Zidane was not keen on the 22-year-old last season, which led the playmaker to join Arsenal last January.
A second transfer blow for Arsenal
According to the Athletic, Odegaard is Arsenal’s number one target this summer as the club seek to sign a creative midfielder.
The Gunners were heavily linked with former Norwich City winger Emi Buendia. However, Aston Villa beat them to the Argentine’s signature.
With Ancelotti keen to work with Odegaard, the Gunners could yet again miss out on a creative signing. Furthermore, Arsenal have just one player in their squad who currently fills this role in the form of Emile Smith Rowe.
Aside from Buendia and Odegaard, Arsenal have not been linked with too many creative players this transfer window. As reported by the Athletic, the Gunners are preparing a bid for Brighton centre-back and now England international Ben White.
Arsenal simply have to make Odegaard transfer
The Norwegian midfielder impressed in his brief stint with Arsenal last season. And although Odegaard didn’t pull up any trees with the north London side, it was clear from the offset that the youngster is a special player, and one the Gunners simply have to sign on a permanent deal this summer.
The 22-year-old playmaker can fill the creative void Arsenal have been lacking for well over 12 months. And given his age, ability and potential, Odegaard could be the Gunners main creative force for many years to come should Mikel Arteta and Edu push to sign the playmaker.
