Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has emerged as a potential transfer target for Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

Marca claim Diego Simeone is looking at the Frenchman as a Plan B should they fail to sign Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain.

It is not the first time Lacazette has been linked with a move to Atleti, with Sky Sports reporting a deal had actually been struck with Lyon for his transfer in 2017.

Marca add that, should Atleti indeed pursue Lacazette, they will offer £53 million signing Thomas Lemar (Guardian) as makeweight.

Lemar has been linked with a switch to the Emirates in recent days, as well as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

£182,000-a-week star Lacazette (Spotrac) has been with Arsenal since the summer of 2017 and has scored 42 goals in 107 appearances for the Gunners.

He has a contract until the summer of 2022, meaning Arsenal are in a fairly strong position over the forward.

TBR’s view – Arsenal should resist Atletico interest

Some Gunners supporters believe he can be more prolific, but on his day he is a quality player who has a creative spark to his game as well.

Arsenal don’t particularly need Lemar as they have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka to play in the wide areas.
