Report: Arsenal still want 'incredible' Houssem Aouar this summer
Arsenal are, once again, interested in signing Houssem Aouar this summer, with Calciomercato in Italy reporting that he will leave Lyon at the end of the season.
Aouar has been heavily linked with the Gunners for some time now. It did appear that Mikel Arteta was very keen to bring the Frenchman to the club last summer.
Ultimately, he stayed put. And he has enjoyed a decent season with Les Gones, scoring three and providing three assists in Ligue 1.
Calciomercato reports that Aouar is out of contract at the end of next season. And the two sides are yet to reach an agreement over fresh terms.
The report claims that he will now leave this summer. And Arsenal remain in the running to sign Aouar, with Juventus and Inter Milan also interested in the 23-year-old.
Arsenal fans may not get carried away with fresh links with Houssem Aouar
Arsenal ultimately signed Martin Odegaard last summer. And that deal has proved to be a masterstroke. The Norwegian has been outstanding for the Gunners, particularly in the last few weeks.
That does not necessarily mean that they will not pursue Aouar. However, signing the youngster is surely much less of a priority now that Odegaard is at the Emirates.
Having said that, his contract situation potentially opens the door for a really shrewd piece of business. He may not cost anywhere near as much as he may have done in previous years.
Pep Guardiola previously described Aouar as an ‘incredible‘ player. And if Arsenal are going to be in Europe again next year – potentially in the Champions League – they may need to bolster their squad.
It is an exciting time to join the Gunners right now. And Aouar would surely be tempted by a move if Arsenal did come calling in the coming months.
