Report: Arsenal 'stand-out' candidates for £52m star who's been compared to Coutinho

Arsenal are looking to bolster their midfield and attacking ranks over the summer.

A new striker is the main priority for the Gunners, with a new central midfielder just behind.

However, Arsenal are reportedly also keeping an eye out for new additions on the wings.

Why Are The Most Expensive Transfers Always Failures?

Now, according to Portuguese outlet Record, the Gunners are eyeing one of the Primeira Liga’s top talents.

That player is Otavio, who has clocked up close to 250 competitive appearances for Porto.

Record, via Sport Witness, claims some Premier League sides have ‘an eye’ on Otavio’s development at the club.

And among the English clubs who are interested in the 27-year-old, the one that ‘stands out’ is Arsenal.

However, it’s ‘not certain’ that the Gunners will make an official bid.

Record makes it clear there’s only one way Porto will let Otavio go this summer.

And that’s if a club triggers his release clause, which stands at €60m (around £52m).

Can Arsenal land Coutinho 2.0?

Otavio is a top talent who has impressed during his eight years at Porto.

The Brazil-born winger has won seven trophies and has also become a Portugal international.

Otavio mostly plays on the right wing, but can also play on the left flank, at No. 10, and centrally.

Some fans on Twitter have compared his style of play to that of Philippe Coutinho.

Otavio would be a good shout for Arsenal, but chances are it would be a difficult signing.

Porto don’t seem keen on selling, while the player himself seems happy at Porto and in Portugal.

And Arsenal have higher priorities this summer, considering Otavio’s fairly high release clause.

That said, if the Gunners manage to sell Nicolas Pepe, then they’d have the funds to potentially launch a bid.
