Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are amongst the group of clubs interested in signing Getafe centre-back Djene, according to a report from The Sun.
It would be no surprise to see the likes of the Gunners and Spurs strengthen their options at the back this month.
Tottenham have kept one clean sheet since Jose Mourinho arrived last year. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s centre-backs have come in for plenty of criticism this term.
The Sun also suggests that Shkodran Mustafi could soon be on the way out of the Emirates, and Calum Chambers is set to be sidelined for much of the year.
And it is suggested by The Sun that the North London pair both want Djene. The report claims that Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace also want the 28-year-old, while Southampton have also made an enquiry.
The Sun notes that Getafe want £22 million for the Togo international.
TBR View – Djene could be shrewd signing for Everton, Arsenal or Spurs
Djene has started 17 of Getafe’s 19 top flight games this season. And he has helped his side keep one of the best defensive records in the division. Just four sides have conceded fewer goals so far.
Djene is also capable of playing right across the back four. So he may arguably prove to be a shrewd signing for one of the Premier League sides chasing his signature.
A £22 million outlay is not huge for the likes of Everton, Spurs and Arsenal. But perhaps they should consider acting fast before a bidding war potentially ensues and drives his asking price up.
