Report: Arsenal signing Raheem Sterling now impossible this summer
Arsenal signing Raheem Sterling is now looking impossible, with The Telegraph reporting that the Manchester City star is not going to move to the Emirates with the Gunners not qualifying for the Champions League.
Mikel Arteta’s men will feel a sense of disappointment after the Premier League campaign concluded on Sunday. Of course, Arsenal have spent the large majority of the second-half of the season in fourth spot.
Unfortunately, two defeats in their final three games saw Arsenal pipped to a top-four place. And they are now set to be playing in the Europa League next year.
Arsenal are building and improving under Mikel Arteta. And they will back themselves to move a step forward next year. But obviously, finishing fifth is a setback to their plans over the summer.
And one of the players Arsenal now look set to miss out on is Sterling. Previous reports claimed that Arteta wanted the England international to be the focal point of his attack next year.
However, Sterling is now unlikely to join the Gunners. The Telegraph reports that a deal is impossible now that Arsenal have missed out on Champions League football.
Arsenal signing Raheem Sterling now impossible
Arsenal signing Sterling would have been an unbelievable deal. And with that, some supporters may have doubted whether the Gunners stood a chance of a move anyway.
Sterling is an ‘outstanding’ player. And he could be coming into the peak years of his career.
But the fact that Arsenal had been linked said a lot about their progress. And reaching the Champions League would have opened the door to some really exciting pieces of business.
Their time may well come. But this summer may now not be the easiest for Arsenal as they look to take that next step.
