Greek outlet Sport FM have claimed that Arsenal are about to sanction the loan exit of Konstantinos Mavropanos, with the Greek defender close to signing for German Bundesliga side Stuttgart.
Mavropanos, 22, only joined Arsenal in January 2018 for a fee of £1.8million (Goal) from Greek minnows Giannina – but has since just managed eight appearances in all competitions for the north London club.
He joined second-tier side Nuremburg in January and has starred for the German side on loan, helping them prevent relegation – losing just four of his 11 appearances in the league for Nuremburg as they finished 16th.
Now, the latest report claims Stuttgart – who gained promotion from the same division that Nuremburg fought hard to stay in to return to the Bundesliga – are about to sign Mavropanos on loan.
The report claims Mavropanos underwent a medical on Monday morning, and he is expected to sign soon.
TBR’s view – Mavropanos suits German football
Despite Arsenal’s lack of form at centre-back with Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and Sokratis all struggling – it is clear that Mavropanos clearly is not good enough for the Gunners, or not yet.
If he impresses in the top tier of German football, there is a much bigger chance that Arsenal could hand Mavropanos the chance to shine in 2021-22. It is a crucial season for Mavropanos, if his Stuttgart move goes ahead.
