The Times have claimed that Arsenal are set to hand Gabriel Martinelli a new contract and he is ‘expected’ to sign, after the club agreed terms with Bukayo Saka and remain in talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Martinelli, 19, has been on fire for the Gunners since joining the club from Brazilian side Ituano despite being somewhat unknown. He has since scored 10 goals in 26 appearances for Arsenal, and laid on four assists.
A Brazil Under-23 international, Martinelli signed a five-year contract when he completed his £6million (Telegraph) move last summer. It means the versatile forward still has four years left to run until June 2024.
But the latest report from The Times claims Arsenal are set to offer Martinelli new terms in order to keep the Brazilian at the Emirates, with loose interest emerging from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
TBR’s view – Keeping Martinelli is absolutely fundamental
It has got to be the first thing Arsenal do. The Brazilian should be the basis in which Arsenal build their team around – as well as Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and other young stars.
Of their long list of talent, which also includes Reiss Nelson, Matteo Guendouzi and Emile Smith-Rowe, Martinelli is probably the best alongside Saka. Making him an Arsenal legend is crucial.
