The Telegraph have claimed that Arsenal are set to offer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a new contract in the ‘coming days’ worth £250,000 a week, a £52,000 increase on his current deal.
The report claims that The Gunners are putting final touches to a contract that will be offered to the Gunners captain perhaps at the end of the week or over the course of the weekend. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
Currently earning £198,000, the new contract will see Aubameyang pocket £250,000 a week plus bonuses – but it will still leave him short of highest earner Mesut Ozil – who is taking home £350,000 a week.
Mikel Arteta has made it clear he wants the striker to stay, but the report claims the pay increase is hardly going to affect Aubameyang’s thinking. Indeed, no European football, and a tenth-placed finish, is more likely to do that.
Another factor is that Aubameyang wants manager Arteta be given the chance to carry out his vision for the north London club, and will look for assurances from the board for that.

TBR’s view – Can Arsenal keep Aubameyang?
There is no question that Arsenal are desperate to keep the striker and managing to agree a new deal for Aubameyang would be a real coup – perhaps the best signing of the summer for the Gunners.
Not only will it see Arsenal keep their best player, but it will also see other players become more attracted over a move to the Emirates. There is a clear plan under Arteta, and with Aubameyang on side, others will be tempted.
