Swedish website AftonBladet have claimed that Arsenal are set to complete the £420,000 signing of Malmo teenager Nikolaj Moller before Monday’s 11pm deadline, in a deal that has somewhat come out of the blue.
Moller, 18, is a lofty 6ft 4in striker that is renowned for his ability in the air. Though he is yet to play for Malmo’s first team, he has been training with thw Swedish club’s senior side – after spending 18 months with Italian club Bologna.
In Italy, he scored three goals for Bologna’s Under-17 side in 19 appearances and as per AftonBladet, he was nicknamed the ‘new Ibra’ after Zlatan Ibrahimovic – given that he is Swedish and very good in the air.
It is believed that Moller will join Arsenal for the nominal six-figure fee before Monday’s 11pm deadline – and link up with the Gunners’ Under-18 side. In terms of senior signings, Thomas Partey could still be on his way to north London.
TBR’s view – Moller something different at Arsenal
The Gunners are hardly renowned for their route-one football and use of a big target man, excluding Olivier Giroud, in recent years. But Moller could be signed as part of a long-term project that eventually provides Mikel Arteta with a plan B.
If Moller does join Arsenal, he could break into the Under-23 side over the course of the next season – and becomes another example of Arsenal looking to strengthen their youth side.
