Report: Arsenal rivalled by title-winning club for midfielder; Xhaka thinks he’s ‘outstanding’
Arsenal reportedly face competition for Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria from Manchester City.
According to Monchengladbach-based publication Tag 24, the Gunners remain keen on the Bundesliga star. However, the reigning Premier League winners are now keen on Zakaria.
As per the report, Borussia Monchengladbach have to sell players this summer. And Zakaria could be one of the club’s star names that will be sold in the window.
Arsenal have had a long-standing interest in Zakaria since breaking through as a key player for Gladbach.
Indeed, Granit Xhaka is a fan of the midfielder, with the Gunners star labelling his international teammate as ‘outstanding’ in a 2019 interview with Bild.
The Gunners are inching closer to signing a new midfielder this summer.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the club have agreed to a deal with R.S.C. Anderlecht for the signing of Albert Sambi Lokonga. Moreover, Le 10 Sport also report that Arsenal have submitted an offer for Lyon star Houssem Aouar.
Arsenal have already sold Matteo Guendouzi this summer. Furthermore, there are reports that Xhaka could be on his way out from north London if an agreement can be made with Serie A side AS Roma.
If Xhaka is to leave north London, Zakaria could prove to be an excellent addition to the squad if the Gunners can beat out City to the midfielder.
The 24-year-old is solid in both attack and defence. And alongside a midfielder with the qualities of Thomas Partey, Arsenal could have one of the most balanced and exciting pivots in the Premier League.
