Report: Arsenal remain confident Bukayo Saka will sign new contract

Arsenal remain confident Bukayo Saka will sign a new contract later this summer despite Manchester City wanting to ramp up their interest in the youngster, according to a report from The Sun.

It appeared that the Gunners may face a battle to keep Saka. He has been an outstanding performer for Mikel Arteta’s side since bursting into the team. And he has rarely let his performance levels drop since.

But this past season ended in disappointing fashion for Arsenal. They missed out on qualifying for the Champions League. And with that, City seemingly sensed an opportunity.

7 Footballers Who Were GENUINELY Irreplaceable

Saka has two years left on his contract at the Emirates. And reports on Tuesday claimed that City hoped that Arsenal finishing fifth may increase the likelihood of the 20-year-old not signing a new deal before the new campaign started.

However, it appears that Arsenal are not too concerned about the England international’s future. The Sun reports that they are hopeful that he will soon sign a new long-term deal worth £125,000-a-week.

The report adds that all the indications are that Saka would be happy to sign the new deal before the new season.

Arsenal confident Saka will sign new contract

Arsenal keeping Saka would be a big boost. The previous reports did note that a move away in this window would be highly unlikely. But it would do the Gunners no favours if his future remained a talking point heading into next season.

It would certainly ramp up the pressure on Arsenal to hit the ground running next season.

But they are heading in the right direction. And agreeing a new deal with Saka would be a further indication that they are moving forwards.

Saka is a ‘special‘ player. And it would be a big statement if Arsenal now get a new contract sorted.
