Report: Arsenal reject Xhaka bid from Roma

Arsenal have rejected an initial £11.2 million bid from Roma from Granit Xhaka, with Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that the Gunners want around £17.2 million for the midfielder.

Xhaka’s future at the Emirates looks to have a big question mark hanging over it.

He recently told RP Online that he was very happy in London as he was asked about a potential return to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Nevertheless, it appears that he could soon be on the move.

Celtic fans left short-changed by Sky Sports once again

And it is Jose Mourinho who is seeming looking to sign him. According to Gazzetta, Roma want the 28-year-old.

However, they have reportedly fallen short in their first offer for the Swiss.

The report claims that Arsenal have rejected an offer of £11.2 million plus add-ons for Xhaka.

According to Gazzetta, the Gunners want around £17.2 million (€20 million) for Xhaka.

The good news for the Arsenal fans ready to see Xhaka sold is the report claims that the Roma hierarchy plan to do all they can to land Xhaka for Mourinho as soon as possible.

That would certainly suggest that an improved offer could be imminent. And given that there is not a huge gulf between the two valuations, perhaps it should not be a surprise if an agreement is reached.

Arsenal need to dig heels in over Xhaka price as they reject Roma bid

As things stand, Arsenal look set to make a significant loss on Xhaka.

According to BBC Sport, the Gunners spent £35 million on the midfielder back in 2016.

So they need to make the best of a bad situation and make sure that they dig their heels in on their reported asking price.

If Roma are prepared to move heaven and earth to make sure Mourinho gets his man, the Giallorossi will surely be prepared to pay that bit more to get a deal across the line.

Xhaka is a player who has come in for a lot of criticism. But Arsenal may still struggle to replace him for less than their reported asking price.
