Report: Arsenal ready to push the boat out to sign 'extraordinary' player in big money deal
Arsenal are prepared to ‘push the boat out’ in an attempt to sign Manuel Locatelli, the Athletic say.
A big signing
Arsenal are shopping on a limited budget, but have numerous targets in mind.
It is claimed that Locatelli is one which they are really prepared to stretch the budget to land, though.
The Sassuolo midfielder, who would cost over £35 million (TuttoMercatoWeb), is clearly highly regarded by Arsenal’s recruitment team, but they are waiting to see if he moves to Juventus.
Arsenal know that Locatelli’s first choice would be Juve, but if that move doesn’t work out then they could be ready to push on with their interest.
The perfect addition?
It is understandable why Arsenal are so keen to land Locatelli too.
The Italian was one of the stars of Euro 2020, as Roberto Mancini’s side won the competition, particularly in the group stages.
His form over the Serie A season was also strong, which has built interest up in him and led to Claudio Ranieri calling him ‘extraordinary’ (Italia News).
If he was to join Arsenal he looks as if he could be Thomas Partey’s ideal partner.
Locatelli doesn’t just offer defensive stability, but he also has shown a happy knack of being able to hit the back of the net, which could be useful for the Gunners who didn’t get enough goals from midfield last term.
