Report: Arsenal told to pay £20m to sign 'incredibly quick' player who's blown Antonio Conte away

Arsenal have set their sights on Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco, according to The Sun.

The Gunners are looking to bolster their ranks ahead of their return to European action next season.

Arsenal were much improved from their woeful 2020-21 campaign, but only just missed out on a top-four place.

Nonetheless, the building blocks are in place, and the Gunners will hope to kick on next term.

Edu and Mikel Arteta must improve their strength in depth, something which cost them last season.

While Kieran Tierney is a world-class left-back, his injury left Arsenal exposed on that flank.

Nuno Tavares is a decent player, but he struggled at times while covering for the Scotland star.

Arteta is reportedly looking to bring in someone new to challenge – and cover for – Tierney in 2022-23.

And Dimarco is apparently in the north Londoners’ sights.

The Sun claims Inter have quoted Arsenal £20million for the 24-year-old.

This is apparently beyond the Gunners’ budget for a player who ‘would not start week in, week out’.

But the Daily Mail claims Arsenal see potential in the Italian defender.

The Gunners ‘would like to acquire his services before other clubs catch wind of his capability’.

“A love for this shirt”

Dimarco is yet to cement his place in the Nerazzurri’s starting XI.

He made 19 out of his 32 league appearances from the bench last season.

Nonetheless, Dimarco is a talented player who could do with a big break and regular first-team football.

In 2021, Cult of Calcio described him as an ‘incredibly quick and versatile full-back’.

‘The Italian can be described as a modern day attacking full-back who likes to run up and down the field all game,’ they wrote.

‘The ability to cover the ground at both ends of the pitch for defensive and offensive actions alike is one of the main features of Dimarco’s game.’

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte managed him at Inter and praised his professionalism back in November 2019.

He spoke after the Nerazzurri secured a 3-1 victory over Slavia Prague in the Champions League group stages.

“Borja Valero? After the win against Torino I praised him and Dimarco,” Forza Italian Football quoted Conte as saying.

“Even though they haven’t played, they have always shown professionalism and a love for this shirt over the past four months.

“When you train with focus your chances will always come. Borja and Dimarco are examples for this entire group.”
