Report: Arsenal preparing to hand Xhaka a new contract as Roma move fails
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to offer Granit Xhaka a new contract as his move to AS Roma collapses.
What’s the story?
According to The Athletic, the Italian side have failed to make a suitable offer for the Switzerland international.
All the talk throughout this summer has been about how the midfielder was destined for Rome. Reports even claimed Xhaka was willing to forego some bonuses to seal an exit from north London.
Arsenal are said to be sticking to their demands of £17m for the sale of the 28-year-old.
However, his stock rose after brilliant performances at Euro 2020. As a result, it invited extra clubs into the race to sign Xhaka.
Arsenal have realised Xhaka is irreplaceable
It has taken a while. But it seems Arsenal have realised Xhaka is irreplaceable amid talks of a new contract.
Selling Xhaka would have been a bad decision, especially after last term.
And when you consider the amount of money it may have taken to replace the midfielder, it makes a potential sale even more maddening.
Keeping Xhaka is the best option for Arsenal. However, offering him a new contract is an even better decision from the club.
