Report: Arsenal player Alan Shearer deemed 'excellent' agrees terms with new club, on verge of leaving
Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is edging ever closer to a permanent move away from the Emirates Stadium.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 25-year-old is on the verge of signing for Lazio.
Torreira has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Biancocelesti and said yes to a move.
Arsenal and Lazio are now looking to agree a fee, added the outlet.
The Gunners are reportedly after £17m, split into two instalments.
Meanwhile, the Italians appear to be after a loan-to-buy deal worth around £12.8m – £13.7m with bonuses.
£26m man
Arsenal signed Torreira from Sampdoria for a reported £26m in 2018.
He has made 89 competitive appearances for the Gunners, claiming 10 goal contributions.
However, Mikel Arteta deemed Torreira surplus to requirements at the start of the season.
He ended up spending the 2020-21 season on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he made 26 appearances.
Arsenal could be losing an “excellent” player
Premier League legend Alan Shearer was impressed with Torreira after Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0 in January 2020.
“Torreira I thought was excellent in the middle of the park,” Shearer said on Match of the Day, via football.london.
“For the whole game they absolutely battered United and thoroughly deserved to win. It was much, much better.
“The intensity, the energy levels, their application.
“They wanted it more than Manchester United and they were fantastic for the whole game.
“Everyone was on the same page. They all understood their jobs.”
