Arsenal plan to make a fresh bid for Houssem Aouar soon, with Le 10 Sport reporting that the 22-year-old remains a priority target for Mikel Arteta this summer.
Aouar has been linked with the Gunners for much of the window. The Telegraph reports that Lyon want £54 million for the youngster, who is also wanted by an unnamed Champions League club.
Le 10 Sport has now suggested that Arsenal have seen an initial bid for Aouar turned down. However, it appears that they are not ready to admit defeat just yet.
The report claims that the Gunners will return with a fresh bid in the near future.
Le 10 Sport does note however, that Arsenal are wary of overbidding for the midfielder, who was handed his first call-up to the France national team ahead of the most recent break.
TBR View: Aouar deal would round off superb window for Arsenal
The early signs suggest that Arsenal are ready to take another step in the right direction under Arteta. They have won both of their opening league games and played some excellent football.
And they are arguably a handful of deals away from being able to reflect on a fantastic window.
They will have one eye on offloading some of the fringe players within their squad. But the icing on the cake would surely come from bringing Aouar to the Emirates before the deadline passes.
