Report: Arsenal open to January offers for 29-year-old

Arsenal will indeed be open to offers that come in for Bernd Leno during the January transfer window, according to a report from Eurosport.

What’s the story?

Leno’s future has become a talking point in recent weeks. The 29-year-old had seen off the challenge of one rival for the number one spot last year with the Gunners selling Emi Martinez.

However, Aaron Ramsdale’s arrival appears to have pushed the German close to the exit.

He has not featured in either of Arsenal’s last two games. And Ramsdale has received plenty of plaudits after playing his part in two wins.

ULTIMATE XI Of Players Signed This Summer

Ramsdale’s form had already thrown Leno’s future into doubt. The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Arsenal could consider offers next summer.

That report suggested however, that there was little chance of a January exit.

But perhaps Arsenal’s stance may have already changed.

Eurosport is now claiming that they are open to January offers for Leno. They also report that a return to Germany is looking most likely.

Too soon to write Leno off amid Arsenal exit reports?

Ramsdale appears to be number one right now. And without European football, Leno may have to be patient.

Of course, he will want to consider his options should he remain on the bench. But it is surely too soon to write him off.

Ramsdale will face tougher tests in the weeks ahead, if Arteta sticks with him. And given his age, there will be times when the 23-year-old’s form is called into question.

Leno – who Arteta recently labelled a top professional – now knows what it is like to be on the periphery.

If that motivates him to rediscover his best form, it may well be that he has plenty of time left before Arsenal feel compelled to let him go.
