French outlet Foot Mercato have claimed that Arsenal are one of three European heavyweights interested in raiding French club Rennes for 16-year-old midfielder Noah Francoise, with all three clubs making contact.

Francoise has captained France’s Under-16 side on numerous occasions and is close to breaking into Rennes’ senior side – only for Eduardo Camavinga to shine. Another talented midfielder, Camavinga is also being linked with a move at just 17.

Now, Francoise’s future is in doubt at Rennes with the midfielder failing to make his senior debut. That is because he has failed to sign professional terms with the Ligue 1 side, and that has attracted interest from Arsenal, Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners are renowned for bringing in younger players and under Arteta, the likes of Bukayo Saka, Joe Willock, Matteo Guendouzi and Eddie Nketiah have all impressed. Gabriel Martinelli was brought to the club last summer.

TBR’s view – Francoise is worth a go, given his early potential

The Gunners need midfielders. Guendouzi is decent, but endured a difficult season this time around – as did Granit Xhaka, who has recovered somewhat following his altercation with fans. Lucas Torreira has been okay, and is currently injured.

The likes of Thomas Partey, Pape Gueye and Mady Camara have all been linked, but Arsenal should also consider a young midfielder to bring through the academy – as well as signing a player who is ready right now. Francoise could be that man.
