A player reportedly sought after by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is to choose between the Gunners and one other team with regards to a summer move, according to Turkish outlet Skor.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu and are willing to make a €26.5million (around £24million) bid, Spanish outlet La Razon previously claimed.
The Gunners face a tricky summer as Mikel Arteta seeks to stamp his mark on the team and bolster their ranks, but with the potential prospect of no European football and the monies it brings.
Nonetheless, Arsenal are believed to be looking at a player who has already made 47 appearances for Feyenoord’s senior side despite his 19 years of age.
Kokcu has played 35 times this season, scoring three goals and claiming six assists, and is turning plenty of heads in the Eredivisie and beyond.
Skor claims that Arsenal will directly battle Sevilla for the signing of Kokcu in the summer, with the midfielder set to join one of the two clubs, and no other suitors believed to be in the race.
The prior report from La Razon claimed that the £24million bid Arsenal are planning to make would be too much for Sevilla to match.
One of the few positives this season for Arsenal is the emergency of some young stars such as Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, and Kokcu certainly seems to have the talent to fit into the first team right away.
A skilful, technically gifted midfielder, the Turkey Under-21 international has been deployed as a number 10, as a box-to-box midfielder and even as a defensive midfielder.
In addition, Kokcu also has an eye for goal, finishing as Feyenoord Under-19s top goalscorer in 2017-18 (Football Oranje).
With Mesut Ozil out of contract in the summer of 2021, Kokcu could potentially be his long-term replacement, if the reports of interest in him are true.
With Arsenal seemingly having to contend with just one other suitor who may not be able to match with them financially, it bodes well for the Gunners’ hopes of landing him.
