Arsenal are now one of just two clubs left in the race for Jonathan David, according to Le10 Sport.

The Gunners have been linked with the Lille and Canada star for a number of months now.

With the summer transfer window just a few months away, speculation is increasing once again.

Little surprise really – Arsenal have just two senior strikers on their books and both are soon out of contract.

Le10 Sport, via Sport Witness, claims Mikel Arteta’s side and Liverpool are the two avenues opening up the most for the forward.

They point out that, at the moment, the 17-goal striker is ‘one of the priorities’ for Arsenal as they head towards the next transfer window.

In comparison, the Anfield outfit have merely ‘ticked his name’ for the summer and ‘are ready to position themselves’ if need be.

“The Premier League is a good option for him”

Arsenal have a pressing need to bring in one or more centre-forwards in the close season.

David, a player previously described as a “phenomenon“, would be a great shout.

He has been truly outstanding for the Ligue 1 champions this term.

In addition, his agent has previously spoken of David’s desire to move at the end of the season.

Nick Mavromaras told Radio Canada: “For us, the goal is to finish the season in Lille.

“But it will be his last season there for several reasons.

“I think the Premier League is a good option for him.

“I think that he likes Spain a lot also because he likes the feeling of the ball and the very technical players.

“These two leagues are a big priority for him, but nothing is excluded.”

Just the other day, David and Renato Sanches combined to score a goal in a 4-0 win over Clermont.

The two players decided to take a leaf out of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette’s book.

They bowed down and shook hands in front of the cameras – something Arsenal fans will surely love.
