Arsenal officials have reportedly told Lucas Torreira and his agent he isn’t for sale next month.

According to a report from The Daily Star, the Uruguay midfielder has been informed that the club will not be looking to cash in on him in January, amid reported interest from Napoli.

There has been a fair bit of talk about Torreira and his future in the last few weeks.

The 23-year-old made a sluggish start to 2019/20, and wasn’t always selected to start games by Unai Emery.

Only last month, his agent explained played down speculation he wanted out, but did admit he no longer felt ‘at ease’ at the Emirates (Calciomercato).

Under Freddie Ljungberg though, the South American has seen more game time.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported earlier this week that Napoli were preparing to launch a bid to sign Torreira initially on loan for £2.5 million, with a £22 million obligation to buy in 18 months.

It would appear though that Arsenal will not be entertaining the Champions League side’s interest.

The club are really struggling so far in 2019/20, and he is arguably the best holding midfield player in the squad.

He hasn’t been able to show his best form for a while, but current circumstances and a lack of many other options must see the Gunners retain the £75,000-a-week (Spotrac) former Sampdoria man.
