Report: Arsenal offer 'top quality' target £120k-a-week wages to join Gunners, near four-fold increase

Arsenal have reportedly offered Ben White a wage increase of nearly four times his current salary.

The Gunners are apparently very eager to land the Brighton and England centre-back.

Arsenal reportedly made a £40million offer to Brighton last week, which the Seagulls rejected.

The two clubs reportedly remain in discussions, though the south coast club apparently wants £50million plus bonuses (The Sun).

“Potential future captain”

Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window Podcast has now reported how much Arsenal are apparently offering White in wages.

In addition, he claims Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is driving his club’s pursuit of the 23-year-old.

“This (pursuit of White) is being driven very much by Mikel Arteta,” said Castles. “He wants White in.

“He is impressed not just by the player’s technical quality, his ability on the ball, his speed, he likes his character, he likes his intelligence, and I am told he even sees him as a potential future captain.

“The understanding on the offer to Ben White is £120,000-per-week, which is a huge increase on what he is on at Brighton.”

According to Salarysport, White is currently on £33,000-per-week.

Arsenal closing in on “top, top quality player”?

In the space of two years, White has gone from a talented prospect at a modest club to one of English football’s rising superstars.

When he joined Leeds on loan in 2019, he had never played in the top two divisions of English football.

Despite his lack of top-level experience, White was sensational for Leeds.

He featured in every one of their Championship games and helped them win the title.

“(White is) top, top quality,” Leeds ace Luke Ayling told Sky Sports earlier this year.

“A real, real quality player with a strong mentality. The sky’s the limit for him.

“I’ve got no doubt that he’ll play for England soon and play many games for them.

“He’ll probably go to one of the top teams in England and probably win the league and that because he’s that good, I think.”

Unsurprisingly, Leeds wanted to buy him following their promotion to the Premier League.

However, they were ultimately unsuccessful as White penned a new deal at Brighton.

The Englishman has since become a regular for the Seagulls, making 36 Premier League appearances last term.
