Arsenal are monitoring Leicester City defender Timothy Castagne as they look to sign a back-up right-back in the summer transfer window.

That is according to a report from the Daily Mirror, which has suggested that the Gunners are looking for cover for the likes of Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

White has been a revelation on the right of the backline this term. But it has been a frustrating time for Tomiyasu, with the Japan international struggling to stave off injuries during his time at the Emirates.

The Daily Mirror reports that Arsenal are not looking to spend big on bolstering their squad depth this summer. But one area they do hope to improve is at right-back. And one of the players on their radar is Timothy Castagne.

The 27-year-old has featured in all but one of the Foxes’ Premier League games this term. But it has been an incredibly disappointing season for Leicester. They go into the final handful of fixtures inside the bottom three in the Premier League.

But he has made 88 appearances in the competition since moving to the King Power Stadium. So he would certainly bring experience if he did make the switch.

Arsenal have had real success signing players who have proven themselves in the Premier League. And Castagne ticks that box.

What may not endear him to supporters however, is that Castagne has previously spoken of his desire to join Tottenham.

In an interview in 2020 – in comments reported by the Daily Record – he suggested that he was a boyhood Arsenal fan. But he would now rather sign for Spurs.

“I was especially a fan when Thierry Henry played for (Arsenal). Now I’m not so much,” he said.

“You have to be honest with yourself. When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can’t say ‘no’.”

The Gunners have come a long, long way since then. And if they make a move this summer, you would imagine that Castagne would jump at the chance to go.
