Report: Arsenal now really want to bid for 'incredible' player who Edu's already shocked once
Arsenal ‘want’ to make a bid for Houssem Aouar but need to sell a midfielder before making an offer to Lyon, ESPN report.
Arsenal have started to be linked with Aouar heavily again this summer, as the midfielder looks close to leaving Lyon.
The French club’s asking price for the midfielder is said to have been slashed after what has been a disappointing season.
Arsenal actually went after Aouar last year, but couldn’t get a deal over the line, which would have then cost them over £50 million.
Just 12 months on, and it is now claimed that Lyon have more than halved their asking price for the 22-year-old, who has previously been called ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola (Sky Sports) – with a bid of around £20 million likely to be enough to land him.
At that price it is clear to see why Arsenal want to make a bid for Aouar, who it is claimed is shocked that Edu didn’t make a move to actually sign him in January.
So who’s going?
It is not yet evident precisely which midfielder they will offload to help raise the funds to launch an offer.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock and Lucas Torreira are all potential candidates to depart, as Arsenal eye up a deal.
The pressure is likely to be on the Gunners to sell up quickly and launch a deal before it is too late, though.
At the price Aouar is available for, there will surely be interest from other clubs.
And Arsenal will need to submit a bid sooner rather than later, otherwise they run the risk of seeing the midfielder snatched away from them before they have even had a chance to move.
