Report: Arsenal now considering signing £42m World Cup forward in January as alternative to Mudryk

Arsenal go into the New Year top of the league and with the club in the best state it’s been in for years.

Mikel Arteta has worked wonders with his young squad, who have lost just one league game all season.

A report from Italian outlet Calciomercato has provided an update on Arsenal’s plans for the January transfer window.

There are very few areas that need any sort of immediate attention in the Arsenal squad right now.

Arteta has made a habit of rotating his team as little as possible in the league, using the cups and Europa League to give fringe players game time.

The loss of Gabriel Jesus to a serious injury has forced Arsenal to re-focus their priorities in the transfer market.

A forward now appears to be the position that needs the most attention.

Eddie Nketiah has netted in both of his starts since the World Cup, but Arsenal lack quality in depth.

Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk appears to be their main target, and he’s keen for a move to be done.

However, Calciomercato suggests ‘an alternative is Lille’s Jonathan David’ in case a move can’t be completed.

The Canadian international, who played at the World Cup last month, is keen to move to the Premier League soon.

Arsenal considering move for David

Valued at £42m, David has attracted attention from a number of English sides.

Tottenham have been interested in David for some time, and are also in the market for another forward.

The report from Calciomercato suggests that David is one of a number of forwards Arsenal are considering.

They also suggest that Dusan Vlahovic is still an ‘object of desire’, while Tammy Abraham is also on their list.

David has nine league goals and four assists in France this season, which is a brilliant record.

However, he’s not scored in his last five appearances, and that inconsistency may concern Arsenal.

Whereas Mudryk is a wide forward who could play centrally if needed, David is very much a centre-forward.

Arsenal would be better off bringing in a more versatile forward than David, even he would consider the move.
