Arsenal have been told to cough up £2m for Mikel Arteta, according to The Daily Mail.
Arteta is Arsenal’s top target and the club are trying to get this over the line quickly. Unai Emery was sacked recently and Freddie Ljungberg has failed to inspire an upturn in form since taking over as the caretaker manager.
Manchester City assistant Arteta is reportedly keen on the Arsenal job. He has been in talks with his former club and this deal should get over the line.
However, Man City are not happy with Arsenal’s conduct. Inside sources have told the Mail that Arsenal have been “disrespectful” and “shambolic” in their approach for the Spaniard.
Man City will let Arteta go once Arsenal pay the £2m compensation fee demanded from the Premier League champions. The Citizens want Arsenal to pay this in full if they are serious about landing Arteta.
Arsenal will tie Arteta down to a three-and-a-half-year contract and he will earn similar wages to Emery.
If Arsenal are serious and Arteta is their top choice, they need to pay the compensation and get this done. Arteta needs his time to assess the squad and think about the January transfer window.
This is a risky move from the north London club, considering Arteta’s lack of managerial experience. But he is a highly-rated coach and he knows the club well so it could be a £2m gamble that pays off.
