Report: Arsenal monitoring Seko Fofana - but chances of deal look slim

Arsenal are monitoring Seko Fofana ahead of the final hours of the transfer window, but Media Foot is reporting that the chances of the 27-year-old moving to the Emirates is currently looking slim.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen in the middle of the park before the deadline passes. The priority may well be more defensively-minded midfielders with Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey currently injured.

But with Arsenal also eyeing another attacking player, there is perhaps scope for Mikel Arteta’s side to sign a central midfielder capable of making an impact in the final third.

And Fofana is certainly one player who can do that.

The Ivory Coast international has scored two goals and provided two assists in four Ligue 1 appearances for Lens this season.

And his form has alerted Arsenal. Media Foot reports that the Gunners are monitoring Fofana ahead of the deadline. However, it is looking unlikely that they will be able to convince Lens to let him leave.

According to Media Foot, no offers worth less than £25.8 million will be considered. Arsenal meanwhile, are said to be prioritising their move for Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Arsenal monitoring Seko Fofana

Fofana would be a player who would have the potential to catch a lot of people off guard if he moved to Arsenal. He is not exactly a household name.

But he is playing as well as he ever has, being labelled ‘relentless’ and ‘incredible’ last season. And he is Lens’ captain. So he would bring further leadership to the Gunners’ side.

He is obviously proving to make a difference in front of goal. And he is also outstanding at driving forward in possession and being in the right place at the right time to get on the end of passes into the final third.

The defensive side of his game is less impressive. But given how Arsenal are growing defensively, that may not be a problem – if Arsenal spring a surprise and bring him in.
