Football London claim Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has put pen to paper on a new until the summer of 2025. Xhaka has been strongly linked with a move to Italian side AS Roma and Jose Mourinho. But talks broke down, and Arsenal have decided to extend his current deal by two years.

Xhaka, 28, was previously in the final two years of his contract at Arsenal. The deal was set to take the Swiss midfielder up until June 2023. But now, he looks set to remain at The Emirates until he is 32 years of age. Xhaka, despite a summer of rumours, captained Arsenal on Friday night.

Xhaka signs Arsenal deal until 2025: A mixed reaction?

In five seasons, Xhaka has clocked up a huge 220 appearances for Arsenal and is clearly one of the more senior members of the team. But the decision to hand Xhaka a new deal, weeks after nearly moving to Italy to join Roma, will be one met with a mixed reaction. Xhaka is decisive among fans.

But Football London now report that Arsenal fans will have to get used to the left-footer in the middle of the park. The midfielder was previously earning £100,000 a week at Arsenal – and it remains to be seen if he will be handed a pay rise. It is unlikely to be the last deal Edu makes this summer.
