According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid has ‘no intention’ of making another move for Arsenal midfielder, Lucas Torreira.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been on loan in La Liga this season, making 19 appearances in what has been a successful campaign for Los Rojos Blancos. Atletico currently lead La Liga.

However, Mundo Deportivo claim that the Spanish side will not try and land Torreira again. The club are wary of the Arsenal man’s wishes to move back to South America and play for Boca Juniors. The club, then, will not try and force anything, per the report.

The sticking point for Torreira could be his current contract and wages with the Gunners. Per Spotrac, he is said to earn around £75-a-week and is contracted until the 2023 campaign. Indeed, Torreira’s father is quoted by MD as suggesting this could be an issue for Boca.

Mikel Arteta is likely to want to sell Torreira to help fund his own summer business. Whether Boca can stump up the cash needed, remains to be seen.

Sometimes, things go beyond football and this seems to be the case with Lucas Torreira. His reasons for wanting to return to his home continent are personal, and that should be considered.

Fortunately for him, Mikel Arteta is a reasonable man and hopefully, he and Arsenal can work with Torreira to resolve his future.

And if Arsenal can land a decent fee in the process, then it’s a win win all around.
