Arsenal have reportedly decided to make a U-turn on the future of their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who may even be in line for a fresh contract at the Emirates Stadium.

According to the Mirror, the Gunners are expected to rethink their summer plans to sign a new goalkeeper in the next window due to the form of Martinez.

It is claimed that the 27-year-old has made a serious impact since he replaced injured number one Bernd Leno in net and now they hope to persuade him to stay with them.

The report explains that the Argentine was considering his future in north London due to a lack of game-time,  but the club want him to stay and compete alongside Leno for the starting position next season.

The Mirror adds that Martinez could even get a new deal due to his recent form, which has seen him concede just one goal in the last four Premier League games.

He’s a £20,000-a-week star (Spotrac) that is proving his quality right now in the first team and has been a calming influence on the backline.

TBR’s View:

Despite Leno being in the conversation for Arsenal’s individual player of the season this year, there is no doubt that Martinez has made quite the impression since replacing the injured German.

Martinez is definitely deserving of a new deal at the club and it’s a massive bonus for manager Mikel Arteta if he’s got two quality options in goal within his squad.

The South American shot-stopper has eight clean sheets in 17 senior appearances this campaign, with his reputation continuing to grow in the closing fixtures of the season.
