Ian McGarry has claimed on the Transfer Window podcast that Arsenal have made a ‘solid enquiry’ to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard – and that the Scottish champions are ready to wave goodbye to the Frenchman for £21.5million.
Edouard, 23, has rediscovered his shooting boots at Celtic during the second half of the season – and currently has 20 goals in 33 games for the Hoops. The Frenchman has incredible stats, netting 81 goals in 160 Celtic games – also laying on 35 assists.
Alexandre Lacazette is being linked with the exit door at Arsenal, while Eddie Nketiah has reportedly emerged as a target for West Ham – according to the Daily Star. Mikel Arteta might need a new striker, then, and Edouard has been identified.
Celtic are set for a rebuild this summer having lost the race for the Scottish Premiership title, and the chance to win 10 in a row and many believe Edouard will depart – among others. Now, Arsenal are looking to bring him in, according to McGarry.
“Odsonne Edouard is available for around €25million (£21.5million),” McGarry said. “It is also our information that Arsenal are a club that have made a solid enquiry, in the next summer window. Celtic are looking to sell players, possibly up to three.”
TransferMarkt claim he is represented by Stellar Football Ltd, the same agency that looks after Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding.
TBR’s view – Edouard would suit Arsenal
Lacazette is not just a striker that scores goals. The former Lyon man likes to drop deep and get involved with play, holding the ball up and linking attacking midfielders and wingers – and Edouard is a player in that ilk, though much younger.
The question mark is, whether Edouard can make the step up to Arsenal from Celtic. Tierney has, becoming one of Arsenal’s best players. Can Edouard? Well, at £21.5million, it is probably a risk worth taking for the Gunners.
