The Daily Star have claimed that Arsenal have decided to overlook the chance to sign Inter Milan playmaker and ex-Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen ahead of the January window – with Inter ready to sell the Dane.
Inter completed a move for 28-year-old Eriksen in at the start of the year, after his contract at Tottenham had entered its final six months. He has since clocked up 33 appearances in all competitions for Inter, but managed just four goals.
The 103-time Denmark international is struggling to recapture his best form and has lost his place in Inter’s starting XI. He has remained an unused substitute in Inter’s last three games, with Antonio Conte looking to other areas of his squad.
The latest report claims Arsenal had been offered the chance to sign Eriksen from Inter, but it appears the Gunners have opted against such a move – leaving Borussia Dortmund and PSG to fight it out for the ex-Ajax star in January.
TBR’s view – Are Arsenal making a mistake?
Putting his Tottenham connections aside, Eriksen needs to join a team where he is first choice and is given the confidence and backing to shine. Yes, his wages are huge at Inter – £260,000 a week (Guardian) to be exact – but he would thrive at Arsenal.
With Mesut Ozil set to leave next summer, nabbing Eriksen would be a top, top bit of business for the Gunners. He can knit all the Arsenal strings together, but adds the work rate that Ozil lacks. Would he move to Arsenal? That is another question.
