Arsenal reportedly failed with a late move to sign Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo on transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old defender has barely featured for the Camp Nou outfit this season, playing just 147 minutes of football in La Liga.

The Gunners, meanwhile, were said to be in the market for a new left-sided defender in the January transfer window.

Arsenal allowed Sead Kolasinac to return to Schalke on loan for the remainder of the season, and were apparently looking to replace him.

Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand plus Crystal Palace duo Patrick van Aanholt and Tyrick Mitchell were all linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

And Gerard Romero revealed on RAC1 (via MD, translated by Metro) yesterday that Arsenal made a late enquiry to sign Firpo.

TBR View:

Firpo is a very good player who has been described by Marca (via Sky Sports) as “effervescent”.

He is also reportedly on £38,000-a-week, meaning his salary demands would be affordable for a big English club.

He hasn’t really had much of a chance to shine at Barca and, according to ESPN, was quite eager to leave the Camp Nou in search of first-team football.

Could Mikel Arteta look to launch a new approach in the summer?
