Report: Arsenal lower asking price for 26-year-old player
Speculation linking Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin with a move away from the North London-based club simply won’t go away.
CBS Sports are now reporting that a bid of £20 million will be enough to tempt the Gunners into a sale.
Bellerin has been heavily linked with a move. The long-serving defender has been monitored by Atletico Madrid, with Real Betis also keen.
The 26-year-old isn’t in Mikel Arteta’s plans. Arsenal have been linked with a few right-backs, with changes likely in defence.
Arteta’s team finished eighth during 2020/21 and that simply won’t be good enough next season.
The challenge initially will be to break the top six, although Arsenal will have Champions League ambitions too.
PSG have previously been interested in Bellerin. Their interest doesn’t appear to be quite so strong this summer, however.
The Champions League semi-finalists have turned their attentions to Inter defender Achraf Hakimi instead.
Interest is still rife though. Lowering his valuation to £20 million will surely alert several clubs towards his availability.
Despite being deemed surplus at Arsenal, he is vastly experienced.
Since coming through the Gunners ranks he has made 239 appearances in the first-team, winning four Spain caps along the way.
Bellerin leaving Arsenal makes sense
For far too long the Gunners have settled for mediocrity and that simply has to stop.
Bellerin has been the Arsenal for several years but the time is right to move him on.
He has been struggling for consistency for some time and letting him leave would allow the club to get a better right-back in.
Bellerin earns £110,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium and those wages could be used elsewhere.
The Spanish star has proved a decent player for the Gunners over the years but the time has come to finally wave goodbye.
Lowering his valuation is a wise move by the Gunners.
