Reported Arsenal target Thomas Partey has been mentioned by The Guardian and The Telegraph as a potential option for Chelsea in their pursuit of a defensive midfielder.

The Atletico Madrid ace has been linked with the Gunners for a number of months now and is said to be one of the number one targets for Mikel Arteta this summer.

In recent weeks, Arsenal have reportedly also shown interest in Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, while one recent report, in the Daily Star, suggested the Gunners’ interest in Partey has petered out.

Over in West London, Chelsea are reportedly trying to snap up a new defensive midfielder and, if they fail to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice, the Blues could look to alternatives.

According to The Guardian, £45million-rated Partey is one such potential option, while The Telegraph adds that Chelsea scouts have been keeping tabs on Atletico in recent months.

TBR View:

Arsenal have made some shrewd signings this summer but a top-class midfield acquisition has so far eluded them, much to the annoyance of some Gunners fans.

As frustrating as it would be to miss out on either Partey or Aouar, it would be worse for Arsenal to lose out to one of their top-flight London rivals.

With the transfer window shutting on Monday and the Arsenal fanbase growing ever more frustrated over the lack of a midfield acquisition, it remains to be seen what happens in the next few days.
