Report: Arsenal-linked star who Kevin De Bruyne says is 'fantastic' has £48m price tag

Reported Arsenal long-time target Houssem Aouar is reportedly valued at £48million and also on the radar of Juventus, according to Calciomercato and Il Bianconero.

The Gunners have been linked with the Lyon midfielder since last year, and at one point in September, ESPN claimed they were frontrunners for his signature.

Since then, Arsenal have bolstered their creative midfield ranks, with Emile Smith Rowe breaking into the first team and Martin Odegaard signing on loan from Real Madrid.

According to Calciomercato, however, the Gunners are still interested in Aouar, but they’d have to compete with Manchester City and Juventus for the 22-year-old’s services.

Bianconeri coach Andrea Pirlo is reportedly not pleased with the options available to him at the moment, and Aouar is his primary target in the upcoming transfer window.

Il Bianconero, meanwhile, claims that Lyon will go no lower than 55m Euro (around £48million) for the France international, who is being “tightly monitored” by the Gunners and Citizens.

TBR View:

While Arsenal are no longer in dire need of creative midfielders as they might’ve been a couple of months ago, it remains to be seen whether Odegaard joins the club permanently in the summer.

If he doesn’t, then Smith Rowe cannot shoulder all the responsibility, and so Aouar could potentially re-emerge as a transfer target.

He is a player of the highest calibre, who Pep Guardiola has previously deemed “incredible” and Kevin De Bruyne has called “fantastic“.

Mikel Arteta shifted some big earners in the January window and could yet clear more deadwood in the summer.

Therefore Aouar – whose contract only runs until 2023 – may not be as unaffordable as in previous windows.
