A player reportedly on the radar of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been put up for sale by his club amid financial difficulties, according to Le10 Sport.

With the Gunners having had issues in defence this season, Arteta could well be looking to bolster his back line ranks in the summer, albeit on a limited budget.

Arsenal are just one of many clubs expected to tighten their belts amid the financial uncertainty befalling the football industry in wake of the global health crisis.

In April, French outlet FootMercato linked the Gunners with Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara, a £28million centre-back likened to Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain ace Thiago Silva (Calciomercato).

With the Ligue 1 club under pressure to raise £100million to avoid potential Financial Fair Play sanctions, the football shutdown has come at the worst possible time for them.

Indeed, Le10 Sport has described Marseille’s finances as being in a “catastrophic state” and as a result, plenty of their main playing assets are expected to be offloaded to raise funds.

Kamara, 20, is thought to be one of those at the top of the club’s sale list, along with Morgan Sanson.

Kamara has gone from strength to strength under Andre Villas-Boas this season, making 28 appearances in all competitions for a side which finished second in Ligue 1 this term.

Excellent in the air and on the ball, pacey and strong, and boasting impeccable positioning and timing, he is a wonderful talent which would instantly bolster the Gunners’ back line.

It won’t be easy, however – Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with his services.
